I’m a new guy and I should stand back and watch for a while, but that’s just not like me. I have posted a longer discussion on my blog to kick up dust on this matter.
Just today I was taking my 8yr old son to a department store optical shop to get a warranty lens replacement, and teach a life lesson on caring for things, when we were assaulted by images of nearly naked young (possibly teenage), if you can call it underwear, “models”. I mean come on! In the center isle that connects everything in the store!
What’s a Catholic dad to do?

Many things can be done but it is vey important to do whatever it is. The most important thing is being an involved father and supporting your childs belief in chastity. Teaching them to attatch feelings to others that they see/lust over may be important as well. This is someone's daughter/baby. Now this can only be done on an age appropriate level. One of my dear friends feels this is very important as well. His blog is <a href="http://hopeofrevocery.blogspot.comhttp://hopeofrevocery.blogspot.com<br />He is a recovering sex addict. Under the Mercy,Matthew S
matthew s,Thanks for commenting, its my first on this new blog world journey. Your friend is doing great and admirable work for himself and the many he is helping. His courage is to be admired, his choice to confront the Truth (big T and little t) is a wonderful testimony of the mercy that is so rich in our 2000 year faith tradition, delivered by the Word from the begining of time.My question is more retorical than not. Obviously, my hope is that my sons can avoid the need for "recovery". My approach has been teaching and leading by example the need for regular reception of the sacrament of confession, and recieving communion in a state of grace and teaching the faith in a relavant age approriate way. I'd like to hear some stories of what has worked well with fathers further down the road with their kids regarding what worked and what didn't. Or some stories of those whose families successful navagated them through to a life of purity from a young age. And in doing so raise all the boats in the harbor's success in raising real men or true knights, which ever you prefer. Find the post back at http://mgcivneyshands.blogspot.com and share your thoughts (unless the community tradition is to post here at Catholic Dads – I'm still trying to learn the ropes here)
