I must admit that I found this rather odd, especially the idea of a father “dating” his daughter.
I would think that a better way to model good, solid, Christian marriage (the end to which dating is directed) is to be a good husband to your wife and for your wife to be a good husband to you AND to allow your daughter to see both those things.
I must also admit that I am leary of promise rings, moreso those connected to promises made to daddy. I am fearful that – in the face of mistakes made in the pursuit of chastity and purity… and mistakes sometimes happen – the daughter is forced to become either a liar (by still wearing the ring) or to withdraw from her father or both parents.
Finally, there was no mention of what his daughter was “saving herself” for? I acknowledge that the video was a brief seven minutes and the answer might be somewhere else in his presentation, but the idea of purity & chastity as goals until marriage without further thought about the duration of the marriage itself is unhelpful. (This was the impression I got – purity until marriage is the virtue.)
All that said, here is a man who has prayed to God to give him wisdom about raising his kids and who has made decisions based on his prayers. There is an awful lot of good in that!
Er, typing too quickly. That should be “your wife to be a good wife to you”. You know whatI mean.
