39 Clues?

December 31st, 2009

Any Catholic dads out there who have read the 39 Clues book series? Any one able to give a short review from a Catholic point of view? My 10-year-old was told about the series and wants to join.

I have read all of them thus far, a lot of history and actual fact in the books. Well written will introduce Children to 7 authors over the 10 books. But it is about a family of world shapers who fight, threaten, and kill each other. Scholastic is giving away $100,000.00 Scholarships to kids between 11 and 17 that solve the clues. The online games are fun. But The books would only be good for a child with inner strength to begin with. Here is a link to my Label (thus all my reviews to date.)

Most book by scholastic are pretty safe. These are like Jason Borne for Teens and Preteens.

Haven’t read any of the books (or even heard of the series before now) but after reading the wikipedia article it seems like (a) claiming that all these famous historical people are related and (b) that some of them were part of a secret, nefarious society, could put the in deep trouble with the affected estates, not to mention hopelessly confusing the young reader as to the real facts.

  3. Thanks gentlemen. We've decided to wait a bit before exploring these.
